Boston College has finalized a proposal to offer alcoholic beverages for sale at Alumni Stadium and Conte Forum.
The Athletic department launched a pilot program in 2017 that expanded beer and wine sales beyond premium seating sections to all general admission ticket holders.
This year, concessions will continue to sell red and white wine as well as a beer selection that includes Bud Light, Budweiser, and Sam Adams. An expanded number of concession locations in Conte Forum and Alumni Stadium will sell alcoholic beverages. Service began last weekend at the football home opener against UMass.
In an interview with BCEagles.com, William V. Campbell Director of Athletics Martin Jarmond voiced his enthusiasm for the continuation of the program: “We’re excited to continue offering this expanded service to our fans. We received great feedback last year that this opportunity enhanced our gameday experience."
Since beginning his role as Athletic Director in 2017, Jarmond’s priority has been to improve the atmosphere at BC sporting events as well as fans' gameday experience. He introduced the pilot alcohol sale program and started BC’s first Fan Council to receive feedback from BC sporting event attendees.
Over the past year, sports attendance has been improving with an 8.4% increase in BC football game attendance during the 2017 season. It seems likely that BC’s decision to join a third of the 130 teams in the Football Bowl Subdivision in offering alcoholic beverages on gameday played some role in this positive trend. Other FBS universities have experienced similar improvements in attendance after offering beer and wine at games.
Boston College Athletics declined to comment further on their decision.
