At a cool 8-0-0 record, Boston College Women’s Ice Hockey is off to one of its best starts in program history. The front end of the Lady Eagles’ schedule certainly has not been light, as the team has taken on nationally ranked programs such as Minnesota Duluth, Cornell, and St. Lawrence, amongst others.
Not only did each game result in a victory, but one could argue that each game resulted in a scathing victory. The team took down Guleph in the season opener 5-1, Minnesota Duluth 4-1 and 4-2, St. Lawrence 7-4 and 7-3, Maine 4-0, New Hampshire 6-0 and most recently, Cornell 4-1 and an astonishing 8-0.
The statistics are truly incredible for the Lady Eagles so far this season, standing second in the nation with an 8-game winning streak. The team's record stands at 6-0 at home and 2-0 on the road, with three shutouts to boot against Maine, New Hampshire and Cornell -- a recent gain from October 24.
The Lady Eagles' successes doesn’t stop there. With a 64% success rate on faceoffs and 13.9% shot percentage, the women are twice as likely to win a faceoff or score as opposed to other teams in the league. The Lady Eagles boast 44 goals so far this season with an average of 5.5 per game -- ridiculous compared to the league average of 1.4.
During the October 24 shutout against Cornell, senior forward Alex Carpenter achieved the title of all-time leading scorer for the Boston College’s Women's Hockey program with 212 points. Carpenter picked up her third hat trick of the season during last Saturday’s game, scoring just 3:37 into the first period, putting the Lady Eagles on the board from the get-go. Carpenter also scored twice in the second period, giving her 14 goals so far in this season. Makenna Newkirk (two goals, one assist) and Haley Skarupa (one goal, two assists) also had 3-point days.
The Lady Eagles face off against the UConn Huskies (3-1-2) at 2pm in Conte Forum this Friday, October 30. Kick off your Halloween weekend by coming out to support the Boston College Women's Ice Hockey —they are sure to bring their A game.
