As the end of October nears, everyone is forced to say goodbye to the limited seasonal time in which Instagram feeds are filled with pictures of pumpkin patches and apple orchards. That being said, there is also the opportunity to enjoy the anticipation of the one night a year "when a girl can dress like a total slut and no other girls can say anything about it", to quote the always-relevant movie Mean Girls.
Perhaps this year, though, you’re ready for a change: you’re ready to part ways with your go-to slutty black cat costume or overdone football player outfit (à la Aaron Samuels) and present yourself as a classy, mature and original representative of Boston College.
With the following costume ideas, you’ll be the center of attention at any party you go to, and will be repping BC with class and sophistication!
1. Sexy Baldwin
This costume is for anyone who wants to show off their love and pride for BC while still taking advantage of the holiday to have fun and wear something daring. This costume is a super cute DIY for those who don’t want to spend a ton of money. Simply wear an oversized Boston College tee shirt as a dress, wrap some white cloth around your hair and face, and either make or buy a yellow beak. Everyone will want to take their picture with you! Note: Be expected to show lots of BC enthusiasm and give out lots of high fives.
This costume pays homage to the religious nature of BC. This costume is also unisex, and great for any girls who have been dying to go out and party in pants! Simply wear black slacks, a black button down, a black jacket and attach a makeshift clerical collar.
Gasson is definitely the building everyone thinks of when they picture Boston College, so what better way to epitomize this BC symbol than by going as the beautiful piece of architecture itself! This idea is geared toward someone who wants to hide his or her face all night and be remembered as that mysterious individual sitting at the bar at MA’s. Assembly is easy and free. Simply print out a large picture of Gasson from the Internet and glue it onto a piece of cardboard then cut out a matching shape. Cut two holes on either side of the cardboard and thread a piece of string through the holes. Tie both sides tightly and wear as a mask! Make sure you wear all grey in addition, and be prepared for people to be “Gassongramming” photos with you all night!
4. BCPD Officer
This costume is a great way to emulate the officers who protect us from danger and send students off to St. Elizabeth’s when they don’t feel well. For this, you can buy a police officer costume from a store, or you can simply wear all navy and just buy a silver badge and hat. Just make sure you tell everyone that it’s just a costume!
5. Beer Pong
On the other side of the costume spectrum, why not go as the classic drinking game that many students (21 and over) participate in? This is another easy and cheap DIY costume that can be put together at the very last minute. Simply wear all one color, and use tape to attach red solo cups on your body in a 3-2-1 triangular shape.
Whatever you end up dressing as this Halloween, make sure you stay safe, drink lots of water, eat a ton of candy and have a great weekend!
