Cleveland Circle has gained added attention as police investigation continues in a case concerning the owner of Roggie’s Sports Bar in Brighton, Mass.
The police were contacted after a man was found outside the bar with serious head injuries. Speculation has increased over time with reports stating that the man may have fell down stairs in the bar and was then carried out by employees and “left for dead,” as WCVB reports. Also, suggestions of an attack had surfaced; however, police are currently treating the case in light of the former suspicion. Police are currently operating under the assumption that some form of foul play was involved.
Police searched for surveillance footage from the night of the incident but have not reported anything conclusive.
In fact, John Rogaris, the 44-year-old owner of the bar, has been indicted on two counts of misleading police, one count of destroying evidence and one count of witness intimidation.
Although the victim’s name has not been released, WHDH has reported that he continues to be in critical condition weeks after the incident.
Even if the accident was not a direct result of the owner’s or any employees’ actions, the steps taken during the investigation have left many in doubt. Earlier this month, Boston police cordoned off the restaurant while they continued their investigation. Although the sidewalk in front of the restaurant is now open, the investigation persists.
Still, the bar has always been known for being lively and welcoming in its small section of Cleveland Circle. Considering the restaurant’s close location to the Boston College campus, this incident casts suspicion upon a spot that students routinely frequent. During the current investigation, management has closed off most of the restaurant’s seating, leaving only the front pizza side open for ordering.
“Roggie’s has always been really nice, so that’s surprising,” one local patron told WHDH. Among college students and residents, Roggie’s holds a good reputation but this scandal has kept their doors closed and locals skeptical.
