As if people needed another reason to visit Universal Studios Florida, it was announced on May 23rd that Universal would be adding a Simpsons themed expansion, "Springfield", and yes – there will be Duff beer.
America's longest-running sitcom as well as longest-running animated program has captured hearts and struck a funny bone since its airing debut in 1989. The Simpsons has had an un-debatably lasting impression and mark on humanity, and now, Universal's announcement has fans more than just a little excited. The beloved Simpsons city of Springfield will become a reality, complete with Krusty Burgers.
Universal did a similar tactic with its grand opening of the highly anticipated Wizarding World of Harry Potter in 2010. Turning a world that had previously only existed in imaginations and television into a physical reality has proved to work. Yearly traffic of visitors to Universal Orlando has skyrocketed since the opening of the Wizarding World, and can only increase with the new Simpsons expansion.
The park will be centered around a previously existing Simpsons ride in Universal Studios Orlando. The entire park will simulate the streets of Springfield. An additional ride will be themed around the alien characters and be called 'Kang and Kodos' Twirl and Hurl'.
'Fast Food Boulevard' will serve to feed all the hungry visitors with some of the most iconic locations in the television series. Restaurants will include Moe's Tavern, Luigi's Pizza, the Frying Dutchman, donuts at Lard Lad and of course, Krusty Burger, which will serve uncharacteristically normal food. Visitors can't expect to be served road kill or insects at this specific Krusty Burger. However, Moe's Tavern will be serving the famous and ever popular among Simpsons characters, Duff beer, which will be brewed exclusively for Universal Orlando.
While a specific date of opening has not been released, Springfield is expected to open sometime this summer.
