Boston Calling artist preview

Boston Calling is Boston's answer to outdoor music festivals like Coachella and Lollapalooza. The two-day event features artists such as Fun., Young the Giant and Andrew Bird. Here are some top songs by this year's headliners to get you ready for a weekend of music in the Bean.

1. “How to be a Heartbreaker” – Marina and the Diamonds

Welsh singer Marina Diamandis created a man-eating alter ego for her sophomore album Electra Heart as seen in her video for "How to Be a Heartbreaker."

2. “Go Outside” – Cults

Does that actor look familiar? Probably because he's James Franco's younger brother, Dave, chasing a Brigitte Bardot-esque Emma Roberts to this New York duo's catchy indie pop single.

3. “The Gambler” – Fun.

Before the men behind "We Are Young" heard their songs being featured on Glee, they wrote tunes like "The Gambler" as odes to their parents.

4. “My Body” – Young the Giant

Formerly known as The Jakes, this California band ranked #5 on Billboard's Alternative charts with the single "My Body" from their debut album.

5. “Simple Song” – The Shins

Together since the later 1990's, The Shin's single "Simple Song" discusses love in a video about a family fighting for their home deed. Family + dysfunction = classic story.

6. “Got It All” – Portugal. The Man.

Portugal. The Man formed after Anatomy of a Ghost disbanded. You might recognize their song from FIFA '12.

7. “Can You Tell” – Ra Ra Riot

Ra Ra Riot released their fourth album, Beta Love, this year. The video for their title single "Beta Love" is a flashback to a 1970's dance party.

8. “Fake Palindromes” – Andrew Bird

Andrew Bird's violin-based songs make him an unconventional occur, but give him a pleasantly unique sound nonetheless.

9. “Daylight” – Matt & Kim

Their video for "Daylight" features this Brooklyn duo performing in a cab, a tub, and a dumpster. Versatile.

10. “Little Talks” – Of Monsters and Men

Icelandic Indie folk group Of Monsters and Men achieved double platinum status in the U.S. for their debut single "Little Talks."

All of these artists and more are performing at Boston Calling music festival, Sat. May 25 & Sun. May 26 at City Hall Plaza.
