"How I Met Your Mother" Episode 21: Romeward Bound

If you haven’t noticed, “How I Met Your Mother” likes to do this thing where they make us wait for weeks on end until we get a new episode. After two long weeks of waiting, we finally got one last night and, while it was pretty irrelevant in the scheme of finding Ted’s wife, it was certainly one to remember.

First, I have to say that the whole thing with Barney and Robin’s wedding planner and her “redonkulus” body is weird. I often found myself between laughter and sheer confusion because that story line is just ridiculous. Usually, “How I Met Your Mother” is finely skilled in turning the weird and random sub plots into the best, most hilarious ones, but I hate to say they dropped the ball on this one. I don’t understand what can be so awe-inspiring about her body that it has the potential to melt people’s faces off. Um, what? Enough said. I guess we will never know.

More importantly, Lily and Marshall are moving to Rome! This really threw me because usually when show-altering ultimatums like this pop up, they almost always choose the one that will keep the show intact. Marshall’s career was the main thing holding Lily back from taking the job in Rome with The Captain, but he conveniently revealed that he hasn’t had a client in months.

Also, who does Lily think she is? The other week she was crying and complaining about how she had to put her art career dreams on hold for the family, and this week she’s upset because she’s afraid to leave New York and chase her career dreams. I have no sympathy for her woes; they are the definition of first-world problems. I guess now we’ll have to see what insignificant woes follow her to Rome.

How can they actually leave? That’s where I draw the line. Without Marshall, what is life? At least, that’s how I see it.

In other not-so-shocking news, Ted’s love life is still in a slump. He claims he couldn’t bring himself to ask out the wedding planner (who also happens to be in his yoga class) because of her amazing body. Again, one of the weirdest plot lines I have seen on this show. This wedding planner seems to be a returning character so we will have to wait to see if Ted finally mans up and asks her out.

That’s all for this week! Tune in Monday on CBS at 8 p.m. for episode 22!
