MIT's campus has been put on lockdown after a person was reportedly seen with a long rifle and body armor spotted inside a campus building. The school sent out an emergency alert telling students to stay indoors, seek shelter, and stay away from the Main Group Building where the person was seen.

The first sighting of the unknown man was at 7:30 a.m. Cambridge police tweeted followers about spotting the man on Mass. Ave. and the street was shut down for a period of time while officers searched the building where the alleged gunman was seen. They did not  find anything. Several law enforcement agencies have reportedly responded to the incident.

The school is asking anyone to report any suspicious activity to campus police.

UPDATE: "Scene is clear. Call unfounded. No threat to public safety in  " tweeted @CambridgePolice
